Just get a job….
Serving those that are homeless and serving those that are one day away from homelessness, it’s not that simple.
We have a family we have been serving with that the dad has a job that works Monday through Saturday but doesn’t get paid enough to take care of all their needs.
Many times I go by and their electric is turned off…something has to give.
Rent, groceries, electric?? Housing is not affordable for our friends.
To the churches that hurl ugly words to our homeless friends without understanding from your ivory towers, have you ever simply sat down with someone that is homeless and had a real conversation with them?
(Please know I understand the problems associated with homelessness in regards to safety and security and in regards to that there must be something done)
I guarantee you will quickly find out that the answer just isn’t so simple. Every homeless persons situation is unique.
This is one reason he has created the church-to be his ambassadors not just to the international field, but yes to the homeless.
Stop hiding behind the government to do what the church is supposed to help with.
A friend recently came up with, “what if out of the 2,000 churches in the Tulsa metro area, 1,000 churches gave $200 a month to help with the homeless epidemic?” (Just $200 a month)
If this were to happen, we could help solve the issue. BUT it’s going to take more than just money. It’s gonna take PRESENCE.
It’s going to take beyond the surface help to really help them.
They need more than just the PRESENTS of food, clothing, shelter, and showers.
They need the church, Jesus’ ministers of reconciliation, to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
I know it’s messy. I know it’s difficult. I know you’re gonna be taken advantage of. Yes let’s use wisdom. Let’s use common sense.
Jesus also came down into the mess. YOUR MESS. And He was patient with you so you would turn to Him!
Pastor, these aren’t “those people”, these are souls who Jesus died for.
